In-School Suspension Teacher

Supervise and monitor students assigned to the In-School Intervention (ISI) Program. Saginaw Public Schools teachers are committed and focused on rapid school turnaround. A Saginaw Public Schools turnaround teacher skillfully demonstrates the capacity to align curriculum, instruction, and assessments while responding to the individual needs of students; the willingness to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches, or administrators for instructional support; the desire and ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents, and the school community;

the prioritization of student-learning needs over the customs, routines, and established relationships that can stand in the way of necessary change; commitment to the relentless pursuit of increasing student learning and innovation; the competence to collect and analyze data from formative and summative assessments to inform instructional decisions; the skill to implement a tiered system of instruction within the classroom and to leverage the intense student support network;

the strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students in order to exert academic influence; the ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability that includes all stakeholders; the willingness to actively engage in the PLC process while participating in ongoing instructional specific conversations; collaboratively create and execute clear, logical instructional plans;

coordinate instruction within and across grade levels; try out new ideas to improve student learning.

Applicant should have knowledge of school and classroom rules, procedures, and practices. Applicant must have the ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods, and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment. Applicant must have strong inter-personal skills and patience. Applicant must have experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is strongly encouraged. Must be able to handle and react to potential volatile situations and take appropriate action.

Provide supervision for students who are assigned to the In-School Suspension (ISI) classroom. Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior. Review in-school suspension policies, procedures, and student expectations with students daily. Maintain an atmosphere in which students are expected to remain seated and silent during the time period. Work with the administration to have in-school serve as an effective preventative disciplinary technique.

Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques. Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions, following established procedures.

Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures. Seek assistance of the parents and the administration when needed. Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect. Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments. Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to the ISI classroom.

Monitor all ISI assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate. Participate in curriculum and program development, and in the selection of materials and equipment to support instruction. Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information with legal confines.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience with middle or high school students. Current Michigan teacher certificate. Three (3) or more years experience in the classroom with thorough knowledge of behavior management strategies. Salary:
