Early Childhood Special Education Teacher; ECSE

Summary

Sherwood Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing learning environment for young children with diverse learning needs. This full‑time position requires a commitment to fostering the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student through individualized instruction and collaboration with families and support staff.

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations.
• Design and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of all students.
• Assess and monitor student progress regularly, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to promote growth and learning.
• Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to support the holistic development of each child.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and social interaction.
• Provide support and training to paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education and special education.
• Foster relationships with community resources and organizations to enhance support for students and families.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field;
  Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid state teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Education.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with young children with special needs in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong understanding of child development and best practices in early childhood education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes and record‑keeping.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for working with young children.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

• 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (7:25 a‑3:10 p)
• Approximately 185 workdays (August through June)
• Salary and benefits are pursuant to collective bargaining agreement with Saginaw Township Education Association (STEA)
• Current 2025‑26 compensation starts at $46,041 for a bachelor's degree (no previous teaching experience); $58,836 for a Master+30 degree (no previous teaching experience)
• The parties’ collective bargaining agreement expires July 31 2027.

The position may require bending, reaching, twisting, pushing or pulling items, lifting or carrying materials up to approximately 40 pounds, and standing and/or walking for extended periods during the workday.
