Medical Laboratory Assistant Instructor

Overview

The instructor is responsible for delivering quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory formats based on approved course outlines. This role ensures students achieve competency in course objectives and promotes a supportive learning environment.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver quality instruction using a variety of approved methods to address all learning modalities.
  • Assess student learning with appropriate methods and demonstrate strong outcomes in Student Retention, Success, and Attendance.
  • Conduct engaging lectures and laboratory sessions per the course outline.
  • Motivate students by addressing concerns, involving them in discussions and activities.
  • Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful course completion.
  • Contact absentee students via text, email, or phone to improve retention.
  • Manage classroom environment in compliance with campus policies on attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Prepare class with required information on the whiteboard:
    Instructor name, contact, date, class name, day’s objectives, and next session objectives.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment readiness and notify campus personnel of any needs.
  • Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings; attend commencement as encouraged.
  • Demonstrate professional growth via membership in educational associations, continuing education, research, and awareness of current practices.
  • Support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services.
  • Maintain educational activities in a legal and ethical manner.
  • Work within the Faculty Development Program to improve success rates, retention, attendance, and exam pass rates.
  • Maintain employer relationships with at least annual contacts (site visit or phone conversation).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written and oral communication, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant or Phlebotomy Certificate.
  • For Clinical Laboratory Science courses, a degree, diploma, or certificate from an accredited post‑secondary institution and either:
    • Two years of documented experience in the subject taught, or
    • Three years of significant job‑related experience for those without specific education in the field.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
Working / Physical Demands

Work may include late nights or weekends. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and extended sitting. The employee must regularly see, talk, and hear while performing duties.
