Help Train the Next Generation of Skilled Trades Professionals
The Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is looking for an experienced Pipefitter to join our instructional team. If you've built a successful career in the pipe fitting industry and enjoy mentoring others, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on Michigan's skilled trades workforce.
You don't need prior teaching experience—we'll provide the curriculum, training, and support to help you become a successful instructor.

As an instructor, you'll:- Share your knowledge and experience with adult students preparing for careers in the skilled trades.
- Teach just one evening each week (5:30–9:30 PM)
- Receive support to become an NCCER Certified Instructor
. - Work with a collaborative education team that values quality instruction and student success.
- Help students gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed in the pipe fitting industry.
This part-time instructor will teach adult students through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab activities. The curriculum includes topics such as:
- Rigging equipment and safe rigging practices
- Advanced trade mathematics
- Safe operation of motorized equipment
- Introduction to above ground pipe installation
- Field routing and vessel trim
- Testing piping systems and equipment
Industry safety standards and best practices
Our instructors combine real-world experience with practical instruction, helping students understand not only how to perform the work, but why it matters in the field.
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction.
- Create a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
- Prepare students for NCCER knowledge and performance assessments.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Encourage professionalism, safety, and teamwork.
- Attend instructor meetings at the beginning of each semester.
- Complete required attendance, grading, and instructional documentation.
We're looking for someone who has:
- At least 4 years of pipe fitting or related industrial piping experience
. - Journeyman status or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for mentoring and helping others learn.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality craftsmanship.
Teaching experience is welcome but not required

- Part-time
- 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- Additional paid preparation time as needed
- NCCER Instructor Certification training
