Summary

Westdale Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a First Grade Teacher. This full-time position offers the opportunity to nurture young minds and foster a love of learning in a supportive and engaging environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education and committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom atmosphere where students can thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with state standards and promote cognitive, social, and emotional development.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through observations, assessments, and individualized feedback.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, staff, and administration to enhance the overall educational experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Implement classroom management strategies to promote positive behavior and conflict resolution among students.
  • Engage in school events and activities to foster community involvement and support student learning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification for Lower Elementary education.
  • Previous experience working with young children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to create a positive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.

Pursuant to Public Act 68 of 1993 and Public Act 83 of 1995, selected new employees shall submit to fingerprints and a criminal background check at the employee’s expense.

Compensation
  • Approximately 185 workdays (August–June)
  • Compensation per Saginaw Township Education Association (STEA) collective bargaining agreement:
  • Contract through July 31, 2027
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits available

Physical Requirements:
  • Maintain emotional control under stress

The position may require bending, reaching, twisting, pushing or pulling items, lifting or carrying materials up to approximately 40 pounds, and standing and/or walking for extended periods during the workday.
