Physical Education Teacher, Elementary School
Position Overview:
Saginaw Township Community Schools is seeking a passionate and innovative Elementary Unified PE Teacher to support the physical, sensory, and emotional development of students receiving special education services. This role is primarily focused on working with students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), across a range of specialized programs. The teacher will support promoting physical activity, sensory integration, emotional regulation through developmentally appropriate, sensory friendly experiences.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and deliver a physical education curriculum that incorporates:
- Mindfulness and movement strategies
- Fitness, sports, and physical activity
- Health, wellness, and nutrition education
- Inclusive instruction for students with and without disabilities
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students
- Collaborate with general education, special education, and support staff to ensure access and engagement for all learners
- Promote student leadership and social-emotional learning within PE classes and the broader school community
- Plan and lead inclusive school-wide wellness initiatives and physical activity events
- Monitor and assess student growth in physical, social, and emotional domains
Required:
- Valid MI Teaching Certificate:
Preferred endorsements in either Special Education, Physical Education, or Adaptive PE (K–5 or appropriate level) - Knowledge of best practices in physical education and differentiated instruction
Preferred:
- Experience with Unified PE or adaptive PE programs
- Training in mindfulness, trauma-informed practices, or social-emotional learning
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
- Creative, collaborative, and flexible approach to teaching
- Passion for promoting wellness, equity, and leadership in students
- Pursuant to Public Act 68 of 1993 and Public Act 83 of 1995, selected new employees shall submit to fingerprints and a criminal background check at the employee's expense.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
