Fishbeck is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector to join our Civil Field team. In this role, you’ll perform field observation and documentation for roadway and bridge projects with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), as well as municipal utility projects. This position requires travel and outdoor work, offering an excellent opportunity to gain experience on diverse projects and grow your career in field inspection.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Prepare detailed Daily Work Reports (DWRs) documenting work status, pay item postings, materials, and jobsite conditions.
- Complete calculations, sketches, and forms, including concrete placement reports, permits, removal item records, wage interviews, mobility reports, and drilled shaft inspection reports.
- Verify construction compliance with contract requirements and communicate non-compliance issues to senior staff.
- Assist with Requests for Information and serve as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers.
- Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, survey staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to ensure proper execution of project designs.
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 2–5+ years of inspection experience on DOT or municipal projects preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT documentation requirements and familiarity with AASHTOWare, Appia, or other digital inspection platforms is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record; ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam or Plan Grid is a plus.
- Experience with survey equipment including GPS or Arrow Systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and sit as needed on project sites, drive to work locations, and maneuver uneven terrain. Visual acuity and communication skills are essential. Accommodations may be made for qualified individuals.
