Essential Job Duties
- Assist patients who are dropping off prescriptions; ensure all appropriate patient and insurance information is obtained. (8%)
- Ensure that patient/insurance profiles are accurate in the computer system and accurately enter prescription information. (15%)
- Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims. (5%)
- Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and GLBHC policies and protocols. (5%)
- Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions, communicating with prescribers and agents to obtain new or refill prescriptions, and participate in a team-based approach to Pharmacy Medication Management. (15%)
- At point of sale, verify that the customer receives correct prescription(s) and signs for them. (10%)
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock, anticipating needed medication and supplies, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs. (5%)
- Complete requisitions for supplies as needed and receive incoming orders accordingly. (2%)
- Answer phone properly and in a timely manner, responding to routine questions and referring calls appropriately, and participate as a patient advocate by communicating with prescribers and their agents. (10%)
- Compound ointments and creams under the supervision of a pharmacist. (1%)
- Pre‑packaging of bulk medications and appropriately labeling/record‑keeping for outlying sites, migrant camps, school‑based programs, etc. (2%)
- Assist other pharmacy staff as needed. (5%)
- Assist pharmacist in maintaining workflow utilizing current Pharmacy guidelines/standards. (8%)
- Maintain a clean work area using current pharmacy guidelines/standards. (3%)
- Maintain awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields related to job responsibilities and integrate them into own practices. (6%)
Job Duties
- Under guidance of the Pharmacy Director, conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities.
- Keep a record of numerous statistical data.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School graduate or equivalent. - Licensure:
State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician;
Pharmacy Technician credentials through PTCB or NHA encouraged. - Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required. - Experience:
Six months previous retail or hospital pharmacy experience preferred. - Skills:
Basic computer skills and pharmacy program literacy preferred; type accurately at 35 wpm; perform basic pharmaceutical math quickly and accurately; knowledge of medication brands and generic names; knowledge of insurance and third‑party payment systems; excellent attention to detail; multitask efficiently and effectively; understand medical terminology and calculations; follow oral and written instructions; bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; professional and courteous attitude; respect for patient confidentiality; exhibit a team‑based approach to customer service. - Physical Effort:
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, or twist while holding up to 25 lbs occasionally. - Hours of Work:
Full‑time or part‑time; flexible and varied; float between sites as necessary. - Travel:
Local travel between sites; reimbursement for expenses per GLBHC policy; licensed driver with proof of personal liability and property damage insurance required.
