The Dialysis Tech is a trained specialist that is proficient in ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment needed in the inpatient care areas. They will facilitate transport of patients to and from the dialysis unit and communicate such coordination of patient transfers with the transport and dialysis staff. Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant Health Care and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for TABLO dialysis supply and machine maintenance by monitoring par levels and ordering supplies including straws, testing strips, flushes, and any other inventory with the machine.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in checking machines for chemical disinfectant and heating cycles, water sampling, and filter changes.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the operation of equipment necessary to perform accurate testing and keeps equipment clean.
  • Maintain maintenance schedule and quality reports.
  • Responsible for monitoring par level and ordering peritoneal dialysis supplies including solution, caps, cleaning supplies, and any other inventory with the machine.
  • Set up and priming of TABLO machines for nursing staff; nurses to verify prescription entered is accurate before beginning treatment.
  • Set up and priming of peritoneal dialysis machines for nursing staff; nurses to verify prescription entered is accurate before beginning treatment.
  • Disconnecting patient from peritoneal cycler at the end of treatment and documenting intake/output and reporting to nurse.
  • Delivery of equipment and supplies to nursing units and returning of supplies to dialysis room when no longer needed.
  • Delivery of peritoneal dialysis solution to pharmacy for medication instillation and returning solutions to peritoneal dialysis cycler once instilled.
  • Accountable to report equipment concerns to appropriate resources; is able to trouble shoot basic equipment issues.
  • Request maintenance as necessary for equipment.
  • Maintenance and stocking of drawers, and supply carts.
  • Transporting patients to and from dialysis treatments.
  • Communication with nursing when taking patients to treatments and notifying nursing when returning patients to units utilizing ticket to ride.
  • Placing calls to unit staff prior to transport.
  • Working with dialysis staff to identify scheduled treatments and reduce delay in care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of one year of supply or healthcare experience preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
    • Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
    • Knowledge of supplies/equipment inventory, cost investigation, ordering and equipment repair processes.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Must be able to work well with others and be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations.
    • Sound judgement in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision and field of vision.
  • Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and squatting.
  • Occasional lifting up to 100 or more lbs.
