Equipment Assembly Technician

Job Title

Dismantle, clean, inspect, repair, paint, and rebuild machinery and equipment for demonstration, testing, or development purposes

Read and interpret a variety of blueprints, including hydraulic schematics and assembly diagrams

Use hand tools and power tools to disassemble, modify, and reassemble machinery

Fit and lay out mating parts for assemblies and perform layout work such as scribing and spot-punching

Replace worn or defective parts and reassemble equipment to operational condition

Adjust and fine-tune timing and clearance of control devices to meet specifications

Set up and operate primary and auxiliary equipment for testing; record test results and make observations as required

Conduct routine evaluations of sample materials and modify components as needed for successful test completion

Maintain and support shop machinery and equipment used in the testing and rebuilding process

Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or 3 years of technical coursework beyond high school

3–5 years of hands-on mechanical experience with equipment rebuilds, testing, or machine assembly

Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical blueprints and hydraulic schematics

Familiarity with using hand tools, small power tools, and precision measuring instruments

Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and/or pipe fitting

Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a hands-on, shop-based environment

Experience operating general shop machinery (drill press, lathe, grinders, etc.)

Electrical hookup and troubleshooting experience

Strong mechanical aptitude with high attention to detail and safety

Capable of recording and reporting detailed test data accurately
