SummaryA Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. The role supports patient healing and the mission of Mary Free Bed.
Responsibilities- Collect, monitor, and report physiological, psychological, socio‑cultural, and spiritual patient needs.
- Administer medications (excluding IV) as ordered by the physician and delegated by the RN.
- Obtain and record vital signs using proper equipment and technique.
- Assist with patient hygiene, bowel programs, and intake/outpatient monitoring.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights.
- Document care in the computer‑based patient record promptly and accurately.
- Transport patients safely to diagnostic testing and therapy sessions as needed.
- Clean patient and work areas, report equipment malfunctions.
- Assist with quality data collection as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
- Support patient and family education as part of the individualized plan of care.
- Communicate with RN and other team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and hospital policies.
- Perform duties related to fiscal responsibility, such as documenting chargeable items and avoiding waste.
- Participate in performance evaluations and competency assessments.
- Assist with preceptorship of new team members when required.
- Active Michigan license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Graduate of an approved practical nursing program.
- Successful completion of an accredited pharmacology course (NAPNES preferred).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Competent computer skills for patient documentation.
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints, prioritize, and respond to interruptions.
- Volunteer experience as an LPN in a rehabilitation setting is preferred.
- Physical capability to remain stationary, walk, use keyboard, and lift up to 50lbs occasionally.
