Pediatric Clinical Instructor – Practical Nurse

The Pediatric clinical instructor is an expert in the clinical setting and is entrusted with imparting the knowledge and skills that students need to succeed. The instructor delivers quality instruction, evaluates and resolves student issues in compliance with policy, procedures, and legal requirements, and motivates, guides, and supports students.

- Plan, prepare, and deliver quality instruction in clinical, lecture, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline.
- Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate strong outcomes.
- Instruct students in the principles and application of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to the role of the PN/RN, as necessary.
- Plan and coordinate daily learning experiences that individualize both student and client needs.
- Provide learning opportunities that enhance student development in the nursing process, interpersonal skills, and technical procedures.
- Guide students on problem solving and effective communication with co‑workers, patients, and families across diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic levels.
- Supervise and monitor students on an ongoing basis as they perform technical and patient care skills.
- Oversee patient status during clinical rotations to ensure appropriate learning experiences.
- Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Operations, Academic Clinical Liaison, and the Director of Nursing to monitor student progress.
- Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for concerns and actively involving them in clinical setting discussions and/or activities.
- Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues throughout the module and mid‑term to ensure successful completion.
- Complete Note to File’s (NTFs) in a timely manner as directed.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ time, attendance, evaluations, experiences, performance, and progress.
- Report concerns to the Director of Clinical Operations.
- Consult with the Director of Clinical Operations and the Director of Nursing regarding actions for students who are in jeopardy or whose performance does not meet clinical standards.
- Collaborate with medical and nursing personnel to evaluate and improve teaching techniques.
- Recommend improvements for the clinical experience.
- Participate in the development of procedures, clinical protocols, and forms as requested.
- Manage the clinical setting environment through compliance with campus policies related to attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Ensure instructor preparedness before class by completing required information on the course syllabus and staying abreast of updates.
- Monitor and prepare supplies and equipment prior to clinical and inform operations staff of necessary attention.
- Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings and attendance at commencement.
- Demonstrate professional growth through participation in educational associations, continuing education, related business experience, educational research, and awareness of current practices.
- Maintain professional writing and other enrichment activities.
- Ensure all educational activity is conducted ethically and legally.
- Maintain annual contacts with employers, including virtual visits, and complete Liaison Form.
- Facilitate all clinical courses when needed, except Pediatrics, unless experienced.
