Registered Nurse | Family Medicine (Full Time)
Department: Family Medicine

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing support and direct patient care within CMU Health faculty group practices. The RN assesses patient needs, coordinates care, supports physicians and providers, provides patient education, and promotes high-quality clinical outcomes while contributing to the organizations patient care, service, and academic missions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Receives, prioritizes, and processes patient requests, including prescription refills, medical supplies, equipment, referrals, and urgent care needs.
  • Documents patient encounters accurately and timely in accordance with nursing standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews and coordinates provider orders, including prescriptions, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, medical equipment, and related services.
  • Prepares examination and treatment rooms, ensuring appropriate equipment, supplies, and documentation are available for patient care.
  • Performs nursing assessments and triages patient concerns via telephone, electronic communication, and in-person encounters, providing appropriate guidance and follow-up.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs, health histories, medication information, and other clinical data as appropriate.
  • Performs clinical procedures, laboratory testing, and diagnostic services within scope of practice and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Assists providers with examinations, procedures, treatments, and other patient care activities.
  • Provides patient and caregiver education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, procedures, and preventative health measures.
  • Supports the educational mission of the organization through collaboration with physicians, residents, medical students, and other learners.
  • Maintains compliance with organizational policies, infection prevention standards, safety requirements, and quality initiatives.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service and promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Participates in quality improvement, performance improvement, and other organizational initiatives as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
  • Current and unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and patient education skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Ambulatory care, outpatient clinic, or home health experience
  • Experience serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, team lead, or charge nurse.
