Position Purpose
The Counter Sales role is a key customer touchpoint responsible for accurate order entry and smooth customer interactions. It requires strong multitasking skills in processing orders, maintaining inventory accuracy, and coordinating logistics to support delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service via phone, email, and in‑person consultations.
- Accurately process customer transactions at the sales counter using the company’s computer system.
- Deliver expert product recommendations and pricing information, tailoring solutions to meet customer needs and maximize sales potential.
- Create detailed sales orders and quotes using customer measurements to estimate material needs and project costs.
- Coordinate and schedule truck deliveries, ensuring optimal logistics and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in cycle counts, order picking, staging, replenishment, and shipping/receiving activities to support inventory management.
- Collaborate with management and team members to communicate customer needs and special order material requests.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment in compliance with safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with warehouse and sales team members to ensure efficient operations and exceptional customer service.
Reports directly to the Branch Manager. No direct reports.
Travel RequirementsNone. All duties performed on‑site at the designated sales counter location.
Physical RequirementsExtended standing and walking, frequent use of hands for computer and order‑processing tasks, and lifting up to 75 lbs., with regular lifting up to 50 lbs. Clear verbal communication required.
Working ConditionsOn‑site role at a sales location, fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Requires adaptability, efficiency, and the ability to work with customers and team members.
Minimum Qualifications- Prior experience in a customer service or sales role.
- Proficiency in basic computer operations and internet navigation.
- Experience with point‑of‑sale systems and order entry procedures.
- Clear and courteous communication skills over the phone, email, and in person.
- Effective problem‑solving skills and resourcefulness.
- Ability to handle physical demands, including lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Experience with irrigation or landscaping products.
- Forklift operation experience and valid certification.
- Advanced skills in retail point‑of‑sale systems and common software applications.
- Understand inventory processes including cycle counts and stock replenishment.
- Knowledge of landscaping materials, tools, and trends.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred EducationAssociate Degree in Business Administration or related field.
Minimum Years of Work ExperienceMinimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Certifications- Forklift Operator Certification (preferred).
- CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred).
- Commitment to customer satisfaction with attentive, courteous, and respectful interactions.
- Clear, concise communication skills for relaying accurate information.
- Maintains a clean, orderly environment and manages multiple tasks efficiently.
- Use of basic computer and internet skills for order processing.
- Attention to detail in creating sales orders and quotes.
- Proactive problem solving regarding product availability and logistics.
- Positive engagement with team members, fostering cooperation and mutual respect.
