The Nursing Specialist position at the Saginaw Career Complex will provide support to the Nursing CNA program by providing direct instruction as well as assisted instructional assistance with CNA skills required for state certification. In addition, the Nursing specialist will be responsible for CPR and BLS certification of students as well as other curriculum needs through the year.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

- Provide support and direct instruction under the direction of the instructor
- Help prepare students for essential therapeutic skills through classroom instruction
- Assist in CPR and BLS certification training
- Reinforce professional and technical skills required by the program description.
- Participate as a member of a team to assist with problem solving situations as they relate to student and program needs.
- Participate in professional development activities and state and national certifications where applicable.
- Assist in the development of work based learning sites.
- Assist with supervision of WBL assignments.
- Assist in placement of students by sharing recommendations based on a working knowledge of the students.
- Discuss student progress and needs with instructor and parents on a regular basis.
- Active involvement in the coordination of student clubs.
- Participate in advisory committee meetings.
- Assist in monitoring of student academic progress.
- Active involvement in Saginaw Career Complex school committees.

- Hold a current nursing related Certification: CNA, LPN, RN, OT, PTA, PT
- A minimum of 5 years of nursing experience
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of experience in the provision of long-term care facility services (federally certified CMS facility-state licensed long-term care). (A long-term care facility is defined as a state licensed nursing home, hospital long term care unit, county care facility, homes for the aged, assisted living facility, hospice or other like provider type.)
- The 1st-year of experience must be in the provision of skilled nursing care and related services to individuals that require non-hospital residential medical, nursing or rehabilitative services for a minimum total of 12 months.
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work with high school students possessing a full range of abilities
- Valid Driver's License required.
- CNA, LPN, RN, OT, PTA, or OTA license
