Under ongoing supervision, the Fitter-Welder fits elbows and welds, cleans and grinds fabricated products. Lays out, fit and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms while meeting all quality and safety standards. May assist in coordinating activities of welders for special welding techniques and/or procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fits elbow and attachment using torch & tack welding
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together
- Cuts products with torch and other tools.
- Gouges welds.
- Grinds welds and fabricated pieces
- Welds product according to plans and specifications
- Completes proper documentation.
- Moves pipe with overhead crane.
Assists in the departmental housekeeping and safety efforts and works collaboratively with other members of the department and production counterparts to ensure production workflow
WORK HOURS / SHIFT
- Work hours vary or change from eight to twelve hours shifts based on operational needs.
- Must be able to work on Saturdays and overtime as required.
As work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to more advanced tasks that include more responsibility.
FITTER-WELDER II - this level of Fitter-Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Fitter-Welder I. The qualifications and experience of this level of operator must be at an intermediate level, with encouragement to develop various techniques to complement existing skillsets, such as back gouging, FCAW, SMAW and X-ray welding analysis. Duties are carried out under limited to close supervision.
As additional work experience is gained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility.
FITTER-WELDER III - this level of Fitter-Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Fitter-Welder II. This level of operator requires advanced training, qualifications and experience. Duties are routinely carried out under minimal supervision. Employees in this position may be responsible for providing on-the-job training (OJT) to new employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
