DescriptionUnder general supervision, provides technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned engineering projects and programs. Ensures the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.
- Leads in the planning, design, execution, and evaluation of test work to evaluate and implement processes and technologies at various sites to reduce environmental liabilities and other environmental challenges under supervision of senior staff.
- Serves as the project leader or technical advisor on small projects.
- Contributes to project discussions to assist with understanding the advantages & disadvantages of evaluated technology.
- Key contributor for compiling, evaluating, and reporting of project results, findings and recommendations.
- Facilitates collaboration and engagement of site personnel, and their contractors, for successful cooperative projects.
- Supervises the preparation and maintenance of detailed records and files of test data.
- Develops and maintains basic working knowledge of national, regional, and local environmental / occupational health and other applicable regulations. Develops a basic knowledge of site environmental and health & safety policies.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related natural science (such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology, Forestry, Agriculture, Meteorology, Environmental/Natural Resource Management) or Mathematics/Computer Science including Accounting and Finance, or, Business Management or other Bachelor’s degree,
and at least three (3) years environmental or related experience,
OR - Master’s degree in a related field and at least one (1) year environmental or related experience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.
- Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Additional certification or licensure appropriate to the job may be required or preferred: (US Examples include: MSHA, HAZWOPER, Engineer in Training (EIT) or Geologist in Training (GIT), or Water Treatment Operator.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in environmental geochemistry and hydrogeology with demonstrable understanding of metal chemistry in aqueous solutions
- Understanding of the principles and practice of the scientific method in a laboratory or field setting
- Experience designing and implementing environmental sampling campaigns, using advanced data analysis tools, and interpreting results to guide robust decision making
- Experience working in chemistry laboratory
- Experience working independently as well as with teams of engineers, scientists, and stakeholders
