Role PurposeReporting to Senior Geologist, the Geologist is responsible primarily for core logging, RC logging and geotechnical logging, with field activities as required.
Role Accountabilities- Perform detailed logging of drill core using tablets or laptops, recording lithology, alteration, structures, veining, and mineralization.
- Ensure drill rigs are properly oriented as specified by the Senior Mine Geologist or designated personnel.
- Coordinate with the Chief Mine Geologist or Senior Geologist to make decisions on ending drill holes or deepening drill holes based on results and drilling conditions.
- Record geotechnical data including RQD, rock hardness, and magnetic susceptibility as needed.
- Conduct geologic field mapping and sample collection as required.
- Confirm that core sampling by core cutters maximizes safety and quality; update and validate drill database.
- Use computer software and applications associated with geological assignments.
- Assist with blast hole sampling.
- Comply with the Company’s Safety Awareness program, office and field safety policies.
- Perform other related geological work as required.
- Conduct daily safety audits at the drill rig site.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, Mining or related discipline from a four-year accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- One to two years of experience in the geological field, drilling, exploration or mining.
- Current MSHA certification.
- Experience logging drill core.
- Experience with porphyry copper and copper skarn deposits.
- Basic knowledge of mining software such as Mine Plan, Leapfrog, Acquire.
Physical demands: regularly required to talk or hear; frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 50, 75, or 100 pounds as needed; able to drive a company vehicle and possess a current valid driver’s license.
Work environment: involves work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as hot and/or dry climates; may involve noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
