NMC is currently recruiting an ED Tech in the Emergency Department. The position is per diem (variable hours bi‑weekly), 7a–3p, 3p–11p or 11p–7a and every other weekend.

Job SummaryThe Emergency Department Technician plans and implements assigned patient care in collaboration with the Nursing staff in the department. The ED Technician provides direct patient care for patients of all age groups and under a wide variety of circumstances, and documents patient information.
Pre‑RequisitesEducation: High School Graduate or equivalent required. Must have a current LNA or EMT.
Other: Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Identifies each patient’s age‑specific needs and provides the care needed by the pediatric, adolescent, and/or geriatric patient group.
Certifications: BLS required. AVADE training required within 6 months of hire.
RelationshipsReports To: Emergency Department Nurse Manager and Director of Emergency Services
Other Contacts: Emergency Department staff, nursing personnel, providers and their office staff, patients and patients’ families, public, police and other forensic staff, and hospital employees.
Scope – Machinery or Equipment UsedUses diagnostic equipment including but not limited to ECG machine and NIBP and basic office equipment including computer.
Physical DemandsOccasional sitting for meetings and/or documentation; lifting up to 50 lbs.; handling of supplies (59.4 lbs) which are stored on racks from the height of 14.5 inches to 90 inches; kneeling, crouching, and overhead reaching to access and retrieve equipment and supplies; awkward positions to retrieve equipment or restrain a defensive or combative patient; frequent twisting, bending, squatting, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling for patient care;
positioning of patients; adjusting beds; transporting of patients to different departments within the hospital; and use of equipment; constant standing and walking.
Exposure to water or other liquids, to conditions where there is potential for danger to life, body or health in dealing with violent/infectious patients, to infections and contagious diseases, to risk of blood‑borne diseases, to hazards from electrical equipment, to housekeeping cleaning agents or chemicals from contaminated patients, to variations in temperature from hot to cold in all weather conditions, to sufficient noise to cause distraction, and/or to unpleasant situations.
Handles emergency and crisis situations, occasional stress/pressure due to multiple calls and injuries, occasionally subject to irregular hours.
- Eye protection, goggles or mask with shield

- Manages self and resources effectively
- Utilizes equipment and supplies appropriately
- Maintain clean, orderly environment of care
- Ensures traffic control in “sensitive areas”
- Requests assistance appropriately
- Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner evidenced by:
- Talks with and listens to patients/team members
- Reports pertinent, concise information
- Complete timely clinical documentation
- Protects confidentiality of patient/colleagues
- Assures drug drawer on medication carts are secured at all times
- Drawer locks are checked every shift
- Applies temporary locks immediately after each use
- Notifies pharmacy as needed for lock replacement
- Documents security in a complete and thorough manner
