Job SummaryThe CNC Machinist assists in operating CNC equipment—including lathes, mills, and grinders—to manufacture ceramic components. The role supports setup personnel, performs routine operations under guidance, and helps build world‑class analytical and reporting practices.
Essential Functions- Proactively supports a culture of safety and quality as top organizational priorities.
- Actively participates in ongoing training initiatives and collaborates with team members and leadership to share information in a structured process.
- Loads and unloads CNC machines safely.
- Runs CNC jobs using pre‑programmed code.
- Makes offsets as instructed.
- Inspects finished parts using calipers, micrometers, comparators and other tools as needed.
- Reports machine malfunctions or product defects.
- Logs basic production data and completes SPC forms.
- Keeps track of individual production by logging in/out of the MRP/Barcode system and counting completed parts.
- Reads and follows shop routing instructions.
- Assists with general machine shop duties as needed.
Level I
- 0–1 year of CNC or machine operator experience; classroom CNC exposure is a plus.
- Familiarity with measurement tools and blueprints.
- Basic computer skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions.
- Willingness to work under supervision.
- Actively participates in ongoing training initiatives and collaborates with team members and leadership to share information in a structured process.
Level II – Includes Level I plus
- 3–5 years CNC operator/manufacturing experience or equivalent technical training.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tool paths, and CNC setup sheets.
- High‑accuracy measuring skills with micrometers, calipers, gauges, and comparators.
- Familiarity with SPC, work instructions, and basic G/M‑code.
- Edits CNC programs to optimize operations and interpret complex tool paths.
- Cross‑trained and proficient in performing tasks in various positions and across departments.
- Demonstrates flexibility to work in various departments and roles as needed.
- Works independently and adapts to production needs while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.
- Loads, unloads, and sets up production machines safely.
- Operates CNC machines to produce parts per work orders and drawings.
- Performs quality checks and identifies non‑conforming parts, halting production when necessary.
- Maintains production records, SPC logs, and tracks output in the MRP/Barcode system.
- Troubleshoots minor machine issues and performs routine preventive maintenance.
- Communicates production issues promptly to leads or supervisors.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives in the cell.
- Performs all Level I CNC operator tasks and other machining‑related duties across production areas.
Level III – Includes Level I and II plus
- 5–7 years CNC machining experience or equivalent technical background.
- Proficient in G‑code editing, blueprint interpretation, and multi‑axis setups.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills for complex machining issues.
- Experienced with SPC, tools, gauges, and high‑precision inspection equipment.
- Ability to create SPC charts and sign‑off sheets.
