The Quality Inspector position maintains quality standards by approving in-process production, finished products, and incoming materials and recording quality results.
Essential Functions- Approves in-process production by confirming requirements and documented information; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating results to production personnel, as required.
- Approves finished products by confirming requirements and documented information; conducting visual and measurement tests; confirming non‑compliant product is processed, re‑processed, and/or reworked, if necessary, to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Approves incoming materials by confirming requirements and documented information; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting non‑conforming materials and facilitating the return of that product with the appropriate documentation for the External Provider.
- Documents inspection results by completing appropriate documented information (e.g. inspection reports, logs, data, etc); inputs data into manufacturing and quality locations, using a computer as required.
- Ensures integrity and calibration of measurement equipment by following operating instructions and Quality Management System documentation; notifying appropriate personnel when calibration concerns arise.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with all regulations.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, etc.
- Supports and executes Quality Policy, Quality Objectives, and the organization’s mission.
Work is performed on site at STC’s facilities in St. Albans, Vermont, with minimal travel required. Time on the shop floor will be required, which can be noisy and dusty, as well as hot during the summer.
Physical DemandsWork involves standing and walking for moderate periods of time, with some duties performed from a seated position. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work may include occasional lifting and carrying objects or pushing/pulling carts weighing approximately 50 pounds, such as products, tools, gages and some equipment. Repetitive motion injuries may occur. Company will provide adaptive devices as needed.
Knowledgeand Experience
Level 1 – NDT Operator
- High school diploma; AS in manufacturing/related field or equivalent job experience preferred.
- Understands basic quality terms, definitions, and concepts.
- Ability to perform non‑destructive testing processes, including but not limited to dye penetrant inspection, electrical testing, special visual sorts including those with magnification, dimensional sorts, etc.
- Familiar with measurement methods, techniques, and terminology.
- Read and interpret drawings/blueprints including an understanding of critical, major, and minor characteristics.
- Ability to read and understand specifications and standards is preferred.
- Understand principles of traceability.
- Ability to pass the STC Quality Math Test A with a minimum score of 80%.
- Ability to successfully operate basic manual measuring equipment in the department with little to no supervision.
- Work cooperatively with Quality Assurance personnel for continuous improvement of personal training and improvement of departmental processes.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Experience recording data in computerized forms.
Level 2 – Inspector (includes Level 1 plus)
- Minimum of 1 year experience at Level 1.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
- Understands basic statistical terms, plotting data, and identify deviated conditions.
- Understands the difference between precision and accuracy.
- General knowledge of ASME Y14.5, working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and understand the x, y, z coordinate system.
- Ability to successfully operate all measuring equipment in the department with little to no supervision.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic knowledge of calibration, and potentially able to train to perform hand tool calibration.
- External hire: 2-5 years’ experience in a quality role.
