Job Summary
Providing environmental support services to critical industries requires commitment, focus and creativity. Michels’ operations and field crews depend on support from our in‑house Environmental Department with environmental/regulatory experts to advance our operations and critical infrastructure projects.
As an Environmental Coordinator, you will coordinate and document field environmental compliance on utility and energy construction projects throughout West Virginia and surrounding states. You will review scopes of work, draft construction permits and compliance plans, collect and analyze multi-media sampling, perform environmental observations and audits, and track and manage regulatory reporting requirements.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate field compliance and maintain documentation on construction projects; prepare permits and compliance plans; analyze environmental data; conduct audits; and ensure regulatory reporting.
Qualifications- Prefer a Bachelor or Associate degree with emphasis in environmental studies, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field. Advanced training or education in the environmental or technical field, with equivalent experience, may be acceptable.
- 2+ years of environmental compliance or related construction experience.
- Knowledge of environmental construction compliance topics and applicable regulations, including storm water best management, process water control, waste storage and disposal, general air compliance, and fuel storage.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time‑management, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Previous experience advising utility construction teams on environmental compliance issues and negotiating company interests with customers.
- Ability to negotiate compliance issues and act as a liaison between company project management and regulatory visits.
- Travel 30% to 60% from West Virginia office.
- Experience in linear construction projects (desired).
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience (desired).
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
