- Summary of Position Function

• Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical work in the repair, alteration, and installation of electrical equipment and wiring systems.

Though each maintenance journeyman will be assigned areas of responsibility, the maintenance journeyman will operate as a team to assure the effective and efficient operation of the maintenance shop.

• Salary Grade:
  • Non-licensed: M30 ($21.96 - $37.17 per hour)
  • Licensed: M20 ($22.30 - $40.00 per hour)
• Rate of pay is determined by years of experience

• Installs, repairs, and maintains district electrical and lighting systems. Installs conduit, wires, switches, outlets, plugs, underground cables, power circuits and panels, transformer panels, and other wiring required for electrical and lighting systems.
• Installs and connects electrical service to new facilities, including portable classrooms and trailers.
• Installs necessary interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances such as kilns, shop equipment, heating and air conditioning systems, water heaters, scoreboards, kitchen appliances, pumps, and generators.
• Installs and repairs a variety of lighting systems, including stage and gymnasium lights, outdoor lighting systems, drop lights, and pool lights.
• Replaces ballasts in lights, breakers, panels, low voltage transformers.
• Checks and inspects circuits and performs electrical repairs of refrigeration, heating, and other equipment.
• Inspects building wiring, panels, and electrical fixtures, and rectifies unsafe conditions.
• Ensures that all electrical work performed conforms to electrical and safety codes.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
• Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
• Responds to emergency calls at night or on weekends.
• Participates in snow removal by driving snowplow vehicles and other snow removal equipment as needed.

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

• Experience at the journeyman level.
• Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions used in working with electricity.
• Knowledge of applicable building, safety, and electrical codes.
• Knowledge of parts, fittings, and boxes used for commercial installations.
• Skill in installing and repairing electrical equipment and wiring systems, and in using tools and equipment associated with the trade.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
• Ability to prepare rough sketches of work and estimate materials and labor.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
