Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 annually
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant / Project Specialist to join our growing team. This role combines traditional accounting responsibilities with project and cost accounting functions, ensuring the financial success of assigned projects from inception through completion. The ideal candidate will possess strong construction or project-based accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers and operational leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, journal entries, and job cost accounting activities.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with external audits and maintain compliance with applicable financial regulations and internal controls.
- Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and reporting processes.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor labor, material, subcontractor, and overhead costs to ensure project profitability.
- Prepare and analyze project financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Process project billings, revenue recognition, and invoicing in accordance with accounting standards.
- Review contract terms and ensure compliance with financial and contractual requirements.
- Identify financial risks, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings.
- Partner with project managers and leadership teams to support informed financial decision-making.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and support audit and compliance requirements.
- Assist with mentoring and training accounting staff as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience in a construction environment.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of project accounting, cost accounting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience with construction accounting software or ERP systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Familiarity with multi-state operations, payroll processing, inventory accounting, or service-based accounting is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration skills with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and communicate financial information effectively.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
