Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families.
The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
This incumbent of this position provides instructive care and/or general care for students on FSDB school buses.
- Demonstrate, model, and reinforce the Agency's fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork.
- Demonstrate these values in interactions with co-workers, supervisor, students, parents and other departments; in personal contributions to work assignments and projects; and when representing the Agency or the State.
- Supervises and monitors student behavior on FSDB school buses and documents positive and negative behavior through the use of Incident Reports, Transportation Reports, etc., and incorporate these reports into the behavior management systems.
- Maintains effective and positive performance by demonstrating flexibility with scheduling work assignments and interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Utilize established policies and procedures to ensure that the education and safety of the students are met.
- Required to maintain an adequate driving record, for the purpose of driving students to and from school-related activities.
- Complies with all internal and departmental FSDB policies and procedures along with all Federal laws and regulations.
- Responsible for attending scheduled Behavior Program Associate meetings, scheduled training, and general staff meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to verbally communicate by use of cellular phone and a two way radio.
- Knowledge of the techniques and method for helping others.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills to use e-mail.
- Ability to work a varied shift including weekends and evenings.
- Ability to account for and keep track of assigned students.
- Ability to visually track the activities of student.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and communicate with students, parents, staff and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate utilizing basic sighted techniques and/or expressive/receptive communication skills.
- Ability to administer medications under supervision.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to maintain a Valid State of Florida Driver's License and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy.
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of work constantly to move objects.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. Visual requirement equals that of a minimum standard based on the criteria of accuracy and neatness of work.
- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.
- Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI);
A high school diploma or its equivalent. Proof of HS Diploma or its equivalent will need to be provided at time of interview.
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire.

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range (215 Day Position) $32,250.00 - $39,750.00 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education. Position also eligible for split shift pay; $55.27 per biweekly period; $1,437.06 annually.
* Base $32,250.00
Associate's degree addl $1500.00
Bachelor's degree addl $3000.00
Master's degree addl $4500.00
Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) addl $150.00 per year
Hours Split shift, schedule varies by route;
Example of schedule may be:
Monday - Thursday 4:15am - 8:15am and 3:15pm - 7:15pm. Friday's schedule may include early morning shift and an afternoon shift, 12:30pm - 6:00pm. Schedule is 40 hours weekly.
