FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families.

How you will make an impact
The incumbent of this position is supervised by the Deaf Department Principal; the Assistant Principal of Instruction provides leadership for teaching and learning within the Deaf High School. This role focuses on supervising instructional personnel, ensuring high-quality standards-based instruction, and implementing systems that support student achievement, intervention, and IEP fidelity. This position works collaboratively with the Assistant Principal of Student Services to ensure a cohesive approach to student success, safety, and well-being.
The Assistant Principal of Instruction maintains a strong presence in classrooms, supports teachers through coaching and feedback, and leads initiatives related to curriculum, instruction, and school improvement.
* Instructional Leadership and Staff Supervision Provide direct supervision and evaluation of teachers, associate teachers, instructional assistants, and staff assistant. Monitor instructional practices through regular classroom walkthroughs and formal observations aligned to school expectations and the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices. Provide timely, actionable feedback that supports continuous improvement in instruction. Lead and support instructional staff in delivering standards-based instruction aligned to curriculum and school priorities.
Facilitate coaching cycles in collaboration with curriculum specialists, ensuring instructional personnel receive targeted support based on student data and classroom observations. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth. Ensure consistent implementation of lesson design, instructional delivery, and progress monitoring practices that support diverse learners who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Maintain high visibility in classrooms to reinforce expectations and provide direct support.
* Instructional Systems, Intervention, and IEP Implementation Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of instructional systems and teacher IEP responsibilities/roles that support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction and interventions. Collaborate with instructional and student services teams to ensure interventions are evidence-based and aligned with student academic and language needs. Support teachers in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring accommodations, modifications, and services are delivered with fidelity.
Participate in IEP and admissions meetings as appropriate to support instructional planning and student placement. Use student performance data, progress monitoring tools, and classroom evidence to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. Ensure alignment between curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices to minimize achievement gaps and promote academic success for all students. Oversee after school tutoring program for DHS students.
* Professional Learning and Department Leadership Plan, develop, and deliver professional development focused on effective instructional strategies, intervention practices, classroom management, differentiated instruction, and engagement for Deaf learners. Ensure professional learning aligns with school goals, accreditation standards, and staff needs. Lead and facilitate content area and department meetings to promote collaboration, data analysis, and instructional alignment. Support the development of teacher leaders and encourage shared leadership within departments.
Participate in and contribute to Academic Leadership Team and ASL Leadership Team meetings. Collaborate with school leadership to advance instructional priorities and ensure consistency across programs.
