Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families.
The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent of this position teaches sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program.
* Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Current Florida Curriculum Standards and course descriptions;
Use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts;
Develop and maintain a classroom management program;
Identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short term objectives based on students' IEPs;
Analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction;
Monitor student progress based on the goals of the IEP, and FSDB and State mandated objectives;
Record and report data on individual students, i.e, keep grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, attendance records, etc;
Document and correct disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures;
Maintain a professional relationship with students, parents and other staff members.
* Attend trainings/meetings and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates.
* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing and/or blind/visually impaired students;
* Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications;
* Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching;
* Knowledge of the principles of human learning, behavior and counseling;
* Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development;
* Ability to teach individuals in a classroom setting using the principles of differentiated instruction;
* Ability to prepare teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences for a variety of students;
* Ability to develop appropriate curriculums;
* Ability to handle problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact;
* Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
* Ability to work independently;
* Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to classroom teaching;
* Ability to plan, establish priorities and implement activities for maximum effectiveness;
* Ability to communicate effectively;
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
* Ability to maintain certification in the appropriate sensory impaired area;
* Ability to apply the principles of Response to Intervention;
* Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI);
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or higher in related field and
* Current state of Florida educator certification in an area of specialty and the appropriate instructional level or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire.
Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in hearing impaired K-12 or visually impaired K-12, with the understanding that additional certification requirements must be completed within a specified period of time.
Teachers may be hired with certification in a subject/content area/instructional level, with the understanding that hearing impaired K-12 or visually impaired K-12 certification must be completed within a specified period of time. If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.

Prefered:
Experience working with Blind/Visually Impaired students.
Sign Language Requirements
