Responsibilities
  • Curriculum development, instruction, and project planning related to career experience and life skills training. Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Current Florida Curriculum Standards and course descriptions; use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts; develop and maintain a classroom management program; identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short term objectives based on students' IEPs;

    analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction; monitor student progress based on the goals of the IEP, and FSDB and State mandated objectives; record and report data on individual students, i.e., keep grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, attendance records, etc.; document and correct disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures;

    maintain a professional relationship with students, parents and other staff members.
  • Attend trainings/meetings and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of career experience and life skills: curriculum development, instruction, and project planning;
  • Knowledge of life skills such as adult living arrangements, financial management, citizenship and community involvement, self-determination and self-advocacy, personal and social competence, personal habits and safety, personal and career planning;
  • Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing students;
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications;
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching;
  • Knowledge of the principles of human learning, behavior and counseling;
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development;
  • Ability to teach individuals in a classroom setting using the principles of differentiated instruction;
  • Ability to prepare teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences for a variety of students;
  • Ability to develop appropriate curriculums;
  • Ability to handle problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact;
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to classroom teaching;
  • Ability to plan, establish priorities and implement activities for maximum effectiveness;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI).
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • AA degree or 60 college credits and knowledge/experience with Blind/VI students
Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language.

Please note:

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

Salary & Hours
  • Base $31,122.00
  • Associate degree addl $1,500.00
  • Bachelor’s degree addl $3,000.00
  • Master’s degree addl $4,500.00
  • Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) addl $150.00 per year

Hours:

Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
