Your Specific Responsibilities

Supervises employees spending majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees' work. Manages the planning, reviewing, issuing and inspecting of all permits required for work within the State Right-of-Way, including inputting and maintaining information in the Department’s Permit Tracking System. Provides management technical and engineering guidance/support to technicians and other engineering specialists to ensure that the Department's goals are met in issuance and inspection of the permitted encroachments/connections within the state road system.

Supervises, manages and directs the work of the Permits staff to coordinate the planning, permit criteria, design, traffic control, specifications and inspections between consultants, owners, contractors, and government agencies on all work being performed within the State Right-of-Way. Stays current on changes to State Policies regarding Access Management.

Receives inquiries, complaints and requests regarding the permitting requirements and maintenance standards of the State Right-of-Way. Evaluates these requests for complexity and priority in order to prepare work documents. Maintains contact with public officials, private companies, general public, and representatives doing business with the Department. Promotes good public relations by providing accurate and timely, verbal and written responses to the public and other Department personnel.

Maintains all relevant engineering plans and permits, which includes filing, recording and archiving all information received. Assists engineering firms, the general public and other departments with obtaining information from Right-of-Way construction plans.
