This position spends more than 50% of the time in supervisory responsibilities, including communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, planning and directing employee work, hiring, transferring, and disciplining subordinate employees, and managing performance expectations. Core program oversight includes the Biomedical Waste Program, Body Piercing Program, Group Care Facilities Program, Migrant Labor Camps/Residential Housing and Field Sanitation Facilities Program, Tanning Facilities Program, Tattooing Program, and Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program.

Activities encompass coordinating inspections, reviewing permits, investigating complaints, education on state and local codes, staff training, approving inspections and permits, initiating enforcement actions, attending meetings, and working with the Public Information Officer on advisories. The incumbent also maintains records in the Environmental Health Database and performs other duties as assigned.

• Coordinating, reviewing, and conducting inspections and site plans per policy.
• Reviewing and issuing permits.
• Assigning, reviewing, investigating, and following up on complaints related to EPH programs.
• Providing education and interpretation regarding state and local codes.
• Conducting staff training.
• Reviewing and approving inspections, permits, and plans.
• Initiating and approving enforcement actions.
• Attending and participating in necessary internal and external meetings.
• Working with the Public Information Officer on advisories or public notifications.
• Monitoring reports assessing permit issuance and inspection completion status.

Daily from 8:00 to 17:00. Total hours in a workweek: 40. This position requires daily in-office or field work.

Valid Florida driver’s license.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental health, environmental science, or physical or biological science.

Certified in Onsite Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) and Food Safety and Sanitation (Certified Environmental Health Professional) within six months of employment (Florida Statute: 381.0101).

Knowledge and skills include basic mathematics, general office procedures, computer usage, time management, organization, problem solving, ability to lift 50 pounds, operate technical equipment, communicate effectively, review site and floor plans, work outdoors, and supervise staff.
