Overview
The Anesthesia Technician assists anesthesia and OR staff with preparing work areas prior to procedures. Ensures equipment and storage areas are clean, organized, and properly stocked. Assists anesthesia and OR staff with direct patient care.
Responsibilities- Assists in setting up work areas and in positioning anesthesia equipment and patient monitoring devices.
- Stocks and monitors anesthesia equipment, drugs, instruments, supplies, and disposables; orders, receives and tracks inventories. Cleans and maintains the anesthesia storage room on a daily basis.
- Cleans and sterilizes anesthesia equipment such as laryngoscopes, blades, and intubation scopes according to established procedures; stores equipment between uses. Wipes down each anesthesia cart and anesthesia machine after each use. Cleans and reprocess TEE probe according to IFU; sets up and maintain TEE equipment.
- Maintains and updates repair, service and scheduled maintenance records for anesthesia equipment and patient monitoring devices. Troubleshoot and report equipment errors.
- Ensures all patient charges are processed with accuracy.
- Assists anesthesia and OR staff with direct patient care.
- Prepares sterile set up for invasive monitoring lines and intravenous access.
- Assists anesthesia providers with placement of lines.
- Prepares and assists with setup of difficult airway equipment. Ensures that all needed supplies are readily available, assembled, and ready for use as requested by anesthesia.
- Assists with the transfer of the patient to the operating room suite and if needed to the OR bed. Assists with the application of patient monitoring devices. Assists with process of induction as requested.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
- High School Diploma/Equivalent
Skills & Abilities:
Basic knowledge of hospital operating room conduct and safety procedures
Skill in performing simple arithmetic calculations
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, to maintain simple records and log sheets, and to clearly and accurately identify and label supplies.
Able to establish and maintain a sterile field and assist with invasive line placement.
Ability to assist anesthesia with difficult airway.
- 1 to 3 years
Operating Room experience
Certificates / Licenses / Registration- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferences:
Certified Anesthesia Technician Additional Information: BLS, provided by the American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
