Public Health Services Manager B-SES -
The Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County (FDOH-SJC) is part of a statewide public health system. This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action.
The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation, and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage and complete timesheets.
This is a professional and responsible position that conducts activities and manages programs in the Environmental Public Health (EPH) department based on state and local codes. This position primarily oversees and completes activities related to:
- Food Hygiene Program
- Biomedical Waste Program
- Body Piercing Program
- Group Care Facilities Program
- Migrant Labor Camps/Residential Housing and Field Sanitation Facilities Program
- Tanning Facilities Program
- Tattooing Program
- Beach Monitoring Program
- Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program
- Well Surveillance Program
- Public Swimming Pools Program
- Healthy Beaches Program
- Limited Use Water Program
- Onsite Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) Program
- Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Program
Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
- Knowledge of basic mathematics
- Knowledge of general office proceedings
- Skilled in basic computer usage
- Skilled in time management
- Skilled in organizing work
- Skilled in problem solving
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds
- Ability to operate technical equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to review site and floor plans
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
- Ability to supervise staff
Qualifications:
- Valid Florida driver's license
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental health, environmental science, or physical or biological science
- Certified in Onsite Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) and Food Safety and Sanitation [Certified Environmental Health Professional (CEHP)] within six months of employment
