We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician to support the maintenance and operation of our Geographic Information System (GIS) in support of Growth Management and departmental operations.
This role is responsible for performing spatial analysis, creating and maintaining GIS data layers, and producing maps and reports for planning and operational use. The GIS Technician will interpret legal descriptions, review property ownership records, and ensure accuracy in mapping and data management. The position requires strong analytical skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple data sources in a fast-paced environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in GIS, mapping, data analysis, or a related field
- Experience working with GIS software (such as ESRI ArcGIS or similar platforms)
- Experience performing spatial analysis and producing maps and reports
- Experience interpreting legal descriptions, plats, and land records
- Experience reviewing property ownership data and verifying accuracy
- Knowledge of data management and database maintenance principles
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience working in a government, municipal, or planning environment
- Familiarity with transportation planning or land development data
- Experience maintaining GIS databases and geospatial data layers
- Exposure to GIS trends, tools, and emerging technologies
- Ability to work in a standard office or hybrid work environment
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 lbs
- Occasional fieldwork may be required
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Coursework or certifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field
