Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are seeking a driven, hands-on Multifamily Asset Manager with deep experience in affordable housing and distressed assets. This role is responsible for overseeing the performance, strategy, and execution of a portfolio of multifamily properties, ensuring financial strength, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.
The ideal candidate is a
go-getter and self-starter
—someone who takes ownership, pushes initiatives forward without being asked, collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, and holds partners and operators accountable to results.
- Oversee day-to-day and long-term performance of a multifamily portfolio, with emphasis on affordable and distressed assets
- Develop and execute asset-level business plans, turnaround strategies, and value-add initiatives
- Monitor financial performance including budgets, forecasts, rent rolls, operating statements, and variance analyses
- Drive NOI growth through operational improvements, expense control, and revenue optimization
- Ensure compliance with applicable affordable housing programs (LIHTC, HUD, Section 8, bond‑financed assets, etc.)
- Coordinate with property management and compliance teams to address audits, reporting, and regulatory requirements
- Identify risks and proactively resolve compliance or operational issues
- Oversee third‑party property management companies and internal teams
- Set clear expectations, KPIs, and timelines—and hold teams accountable for execution
- Review staffing plans, leasing performance, maintenance operations, and capital projects
- Manage vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost control
- Oversee capital improvement plans, rehab scopes, and turnaround initiatives
- Track project budgets, schedules, and outcomes
- Identify distressed asset challenges early and implement corrective action plans
- Serve as a central point of coordination between ownership, property management, accounting, construction, and leadership
- Provide clear, timely reporting and recommendations to stakeholders
- Act as a team player while maintaining firm accountability and performance standards
- 3–7+ years of experience in multifamily asset management
- Demonstrated experience with affordable housing and/or distressed assets required
- Strong understanding of multifamily operations, financial analysis, and real estate fundamentals
- Experience overseeing third‑party property management companies
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Proven self‑starter who takes initiative and drives results without constant oversight
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge underperformance constructively
- High level of organization, follow‑through, and attention to detail
- Go‑getter mindset with a bias toward action
- Comfortable holding others accountable while remaining collaborative
- Problem‑solver who thrives in complex or distressed situations
- Team‑oriented but unafraid to make tough decisions
- Results‑driven with strong ownership mentality
