Job SummaryThe Cast House Supervisor oversees daily cast house operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This role is responsible for leading and developing employees, monitoring performance metrics such as production rates and efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor supports compliance with Hydro's quality and management systems, promotes a strong safety culture, and collaborates with forepersons to optimize processes, resolve issues, and meet production targets.
This position reports to the Cast House Manager.
Continental night shift, Off every other weekend
Responsibilities- Oversee the operation of all processes throughout Cast House
- Directly responsible for the safety and development of employees
- Interview prospective employees as requested by the Human Resource dept.
- Maintain records for shift concerning pounds/hr., efficiency, utilization, and recovery rates
- Direct and coach the foreperson in their area
- Develop and monitor remelt processes
- Conduct daily visual inspection in department to detect safety concerns
- Help forepersons increase production rates and establish new procedures
- Monitor housekeeping
- Establish reasonable production rates on new jobs
- Ensure all inspection reports are completed on shift
- Ensure monthly safety reports are completed
- Perform special projects at the department manager’s request
- Attend monthly safety meetings
- Handle department personnel concerns
- Support and maintain established Hydro Quality and Management System
- Maintain a high level of trust and transparency at all times
- Report any quality related issues immediately to the process supervisor and participate in investigations using tools like 5‑why and root cause analysis
- Sponsor and support all Continuous Reliability Improvement standards and practices through implemented predictive measures
- Other duties as assigned
- 5 years of experience in the aluminum casting, extrusion, or related industry
- 5 years of prior supervisory experience in an industrial plant
- In-depth knowledge of casting process, operation of equipment, aluminum alloys and standards, use of precision instruments, and customer orders and specifications
- Experience with ISO 9000 and/or ISO/TS 16949 Quality Systems
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience where similar knowledge is acquired
- Experience with lean 6 sigma a plus
- Ability to use various systems to track, understand, report, and improve on all KPIs
- Excellent communication skills
- Adaptable to change
- Results oriented
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, setting priorities and meeting deadlines
