Overview
The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients in select phases of perioperative care (as competency demonstrates). This care utilizes the nursing process and the standards of care of a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/ tasks may be delegated to surgical technologists, patient care associates, guest associates and anesthesia technologists.
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN manages individualized, goal‑directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

All age groups. - Required education:
Associate’s degree. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in their offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position.
Current employees hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered. - Preferred education:
Bachelor's degree in nursing or specialty certification. - Required licensure/certifications:
Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida. BLS from the American Heart Association required. ACLS from the American Heart Association required. PALS required within six (6) months from date of hire/transfer. Fellowship RNs must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Effective March 19, 2024 ACLS and PALS are not required for OR Admin (633200) and North Surgery Center (633480). - Preferred licensure/certifications:
Professional specialty certification preferred. - Required experience:
PACU nurses need a minimum of one (1) year critical‑care (ICU/ED) experience. OR perioperative fellows can be new graduate nurses that may apply to the program. OR nurses need one to two (1‑2) years of related OR experience. - Preferred experience:
Two (2+) years of relevant perioperative nursing experience.
