Overview
The Registered Nurse Float provides individualized nursing care services within the standards of nursing practice: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and patient health education. This Registered Nurse will float between the ICU, CVU and Med/Surg unit.
Responsibilities- Perform accurate and complete assessments on patients within established time frames; request consults as indicated. Establish and update patient plans of care based on periodic assessments.
- Assist with providing for the physical comfort and safety of patients (bath and linen changes, medication administration, dietary intake, and other treatments). Ensure security of patient personal items and report discrepancies to supervisor promptly.
- Attend rounds with physicians as indicated, assist with exams, discuss patient progress. Review and implement physician orders. Provide concise bedside report regarding patients' status to the on-coming shift.
- Demonstrate the proper procedure for obtaining, charging for, and returning supplies/equipment and maintain adequate supply levels through accurate inventory control.
- Obtain and verify consent forms.
- Supervise and give assignments to staff assigned to patients.
- Recognize and intervene in life‑threatening emergencies, including administering emergency drugs and using a defibrillator or other emergency treatment.
- Regularly evaluate patient pain levels using an approved pain scale, document findings, intervene to alleviate pain, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Educate patients and families on pain management at UF Health St. Johns, documenting education.
- Perform QA initiatives related to core measures and Flagler Hospital admission standards. Provide and document patient education based on assessed needs, including family and patient preferences.
- Education: Associate’s degree in nursing.
- Required Experience: 1 year of acute care nursing.
- Preferred Experience: Critical care.
