The St. Johns County Fleet Maintenance Division performs all levels of maintenance on County-owned vehicles and certain equipment. The County Fleet, consisting of approximately 975 units of vehicles and equipment, ranges from light vehicles to heavy equipment. Services include, but are not limited to, routine service, preventive maintenance and major repairs to vehicles and equipment.
The newly selected Fleet Technician will work independently and as a member of a Fleet Maintenance team to complete the work necessary to maintain St. Johns County's fleet of vehicles and equipment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in troubleshooting and repairing brakes and air brake systems, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and coolant systems.
- Assists in the repair of engines and drive trains, suspensions, tires, exhaust systems, fuel systems and computerized components.
- Assists with minor body work.
- Assists in rebuilding transmissions, pumps and differentials.
- Assists with front end alignments.
- Assists in the installation of safety lighting and light bars on vehicles.
- Test drives vehicles.
- Performs tune ups.
- Completes work orders.
- Cleans and lubricates tools and equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of trade protocols, safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair procedures, methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of the diagnosis and repair of mechanical, HVAC, hydraulic, electrical and brake systems.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software.
- Skill in the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment.
- Skill in the use and operation of basic tools and equipment common to automotive repair.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- One year of experience in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment.
- Must provide personal hand tools.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must have verifiable experience and training in automobile and light truck repair in brakes and electrical systems, and any two of the following: engine repair, automatic transmission, suspension and steering, heating and air conditioning, or engine performance as appropriate.
- Must have verifiable experience and training in brakes and preventative maintenance inspection and any two of the following: diesel engine, drive train, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, or HVAC systems as appropriate.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.

- Must have verifiable experience and training in preventative maintenance inspection in the following: brakes, diesel engine, drive train, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, and HVAC systems.
