Tax Accountant, Financial Reporting
This is the next step for a Senior Tax professional who’s built a strong foundation in public accounting and now wants to keep developing in the right environment - supportive, well structured and stable.
You’ll be joining an independent CPA firm of around 20 people that’s grown steadily year on year (circa 15%) while staying intentionally small. The partners are hands‑on, accessible, and invested in developing their team. People stay because the firm is well run, expectations are clear, and support is consistent.
The work you’ll be involved in- The client base is primarily small to mid‑sized businesses, with a strong focus on S–corps in the $5m–$30m revenue range, alongside individual clients.
- As a Senior, you’ll work across a mix of preparation and review, with increasing responsibility during busy season.
- You’ll review staff work, get involved in more complex returns, and build confidence in spotting issues and thinking through tax positions, with Partners guidance where needed.
- You’ll also have direct exposure to clients, joining conversations, explaining work, and gradually taking on more ownership of relationships as you grow into the role.
This is a firm that takes development seriously. You won’t be left to figure things out alone, but you also won’t be micromanaged.
They’re looking for someone who already has solid public accounting experience, 7+ years and you'll be comfortable with core compliance work, and is ready to keep building confidence in review, judgement, and client‑facing responsibilities.
The expectation is a core 40-hour week onsite, with flexibility around start and finish times. The focus is on doing good work sustainably, not clock‑watching. One individual in the team starts at 5.30am for example.
During busy season, there’s flexibility to work additional hours and Saturdays remotely rather than being tied to the office.
In the summer, you’ll work a 32-hour week with Fridays off, while still being paid full‑time.
Interested? This role is ideal for a CPA or EA (or actively working toward qualification) with 7+ years public accounting experience, who wants to continue progressing in a smaller firm with real support, partner access, and long‑term opportunity.
Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? No problem. You can still apply the old‑fashioned way, or just reach out to start a conversation with Imogen via Linked In or the Distinct Recruitment website or contact her cell at . She’ll be happy to tell you more about the firm, the job and the prospects before you commit further.
Think you only have 87% of the required experience? Perfect - apply anyway. The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that's where it gets rather exciting.
