Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Risk Manager/Analyst
What You’ll Do
- Compliance and Program Maintenance: support the location’s safety and environmental programs, maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS), contribute to internal EHS audits, and ensure ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance.
- Environmental, Health & Safety Metrics: collect and analyze key performance indicators, track OSHA/environmental violations, incident rates, employee turnover, and workers’ compensation claims; implement strategies to reduce costs and improve safety.
- Training: ensure required training is conducted, and provide instruction to production employees and management on OSHA regulations, environmental rules, SOPs, and emergency response protocols.
- Incident and Audit Management: conduct thorough incident investigations, identify and implement corrective actions, and assist with employee exposure surveys.
- Leadership: drive a positive employee experience through coaching, mentoring, and development of staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or related field, plus 3+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience leading training, coaching, or mentoring, or managing a process or project.
- Strong ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, set goals, and complete commitments on schedule.
- Comfortable working long hours, weekends, and being on-call when required.
- Ability to make strategic decisions under stressful situations, including leading emergency response efforts.
- Occasional travel to collaborate with others.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management requirements for ammonia refrigeration, workers’ compensation processes, and incident investigation.
- Knowledge of air, water, waste permitting for industrial plant settings.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, company software).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for drafting reports and procedures.
- Basic math skills for managing key performance indicators.
- Respectful, approachable, team‑oriented, with strong organizational skills.
The plant environment includes wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and moderate to loud noise in production areas. Tasks may include lifting or moving up to 50 pounds; standing, walking, using stairs or ladders, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Work may be on alternate shifts and some weekends. Ability to deliver information to diverse audiences and fundamental math skills for managing key performance indicators are required.
