Job Summary – About the Role

Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District's safety and administrative policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.

Required:

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and enrolled in high school, or college. Ability to assess situations and offer positive feedback. Experience and desire to work with school age children. Knowledge of positive leadership techniques, children's activities and games, developmental learning progressions, and appropriate discipline techniques. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and Mandated Reporter certifications or obtain certifications within 30 days of hire.

Functions of the Position

Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated. Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.

Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, Recreation Supervisor – School Day Programs and Camps and Before and After School Coordinator, the Before the Bell Instructor shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St.

Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires knowledge and ability to:
Work cooperatively with colleagues, office staff of the individual schools, the general public, the on-site instructors, and the participants. Participate as an active team player while conducting scheduled programs. Serve as a Park District representative, providing leadership and working effectively with others, the on-site instructors, School District staff, program participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors. Effectively communicate. Directly supervise all activities occurring at Before the Bell.

Lead both small and large groups of children. Monitor and request supplies as needed. Resolve problems with children and notify their parents. Effectively communicate information both to and from the supervisor. Assess needs of participants, recommend and implement modification to the existing program. Identify unsafe or unacceptable situations and provide safe environment for participants. Perform First Aid and CPR as necessary.

Follow all safety procedures that pertain to duties involved. Assist with emergency procedures that pertain to duties involved.
