Summary

An adjunct instructor is responsible for teaching, service, and related administrative activities and may also include academic advising, program design, and student mentoring.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Learning:
    Focus on the talents, interests, and future of the student by clearly communicating learning goals and how those goals are assessed; teach course sessions in an organized way; provide time for reflection, discussion, and application of ideas; develop adaptive thinking and problem‑solving skills; encourage students to question ideas; adjust instruction if students experience difficulties; provide useful feedback on tests or completed assignments;

    establish a positive, respectful classroom environment; hold all classes as scheduled; enforce university policies, procedures, and rules; distribute the syllabus to each student at the first class meeting; administer exams or evaluative activities during scheduled final exam time; determine final grades as per the method prescribed in the syllabus.
  • Mentoring:
    Promote volunteer opportunities, conduct research with students, provide curricular enhancements or extensions, tutor, promote resume‑building initiatives, promote responsible citizenship inside and outside the campus, promote leadership opportunities, connect students with university resources, help students to solve problems or adapt their thinking, and promote healthy and ethical lifestyles while providing an example of professionalism.
  • Shared Responsibility:
    Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors that contribute to the academic mission of the university; supervise laboratories, independent study activities, and off‑campus learning such as practicums and internships; participate in shared governance, assuming positions of responsibility by volunteering for university events and initiatives, participating in co‑curricular activities, and recruiting; exhibit interpersonal effectiveness with and respect for students, colleagues, and administrators by acting as a team player and coordinating work behavior with colleagues.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:
    Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned by the dean may be required.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required; ideally 18 hours of graduate coursework in business analytics, or a related discipline, and relevant professional experience.
  • Data visualization/analysis skills using Tableau, Power BI, R Studio, or similar mainstream tools are preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and independent problem‑solving skills.
  • Highly organized, able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas, and CAMS.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and maintain regular attendance; reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
