Adjunct Instructor – Nursing Clinical

A nursing clinical adjunct instructor is responsible for teaching, service, and related administrative activities in the clinical and simulated lab setting. The position may also include academic advising, program design, and student mentoring.

• Teach course sessions, clearly communicating learning goals and assessments, and providing time for reflection, discussion, and application of ideas or information.
• Develop adaptive thinking and problem‑solving skills by using examples or illustrations to explain difficult points, encouraging students to question ideas, adjusting instruction when students experience difficulties, helping students understand the language and processes of the subject, and helping students think through and solve problems.
• Provide useful feedback on tests or completed assignments, and use assessment results to provide extra help or extended learning opportunities.
• Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Hold all classes as scheduled and be punctual in starting and ending classes.
• Enforce and respect university policies, procedures, and rules, and inform the appropriate university official of any violations or inappropriate conduct by students that cannot be redressed through normal faculty intervention.
• Distribute the syllabus to each student enrolled in each course taught at the first class meeting, and provide written notice of any substantial change when needed.
• Ensure students receive reasonable and timely assistance with course assignments/assessments as requested.
• Administer exams or other evaluative activities during the scheduled final exam time for every course and determine final grades as per the method prescribed in the syllabus.
• Provide mentoring, including promoting volunteer opportunities, conducting research with students, providing curricular enhancements or extensions, tutoring, resume‑building initiatives, responsible citizenship, leadership opportunities, connecting students with university resources, and promoting healthy and ethical lifestyles.
• Complete any other requirements as requested by the dean.
• Oversee/supervise students in a clinical setting and coordinate with clinical site personnel.
• Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, and off‑campus learning such as practicums and internships.
• Participate in shared governance, volunteer for university events, co‑curricular activities, and recruiting.
• Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars.

• Master's degree in Nursing (preferred) or a bachelor’s degree in nursing with a clinical component, currently enrolled in a graduate degree program, and holds a certificate of completion from the Missouri Hospital Association’s Clinical Faculty Academy.
• Current, active RN license or privilege to practice.
• No current disciplinary action in the state of Missouri on licensee’s RN license.
• No past disciplinary action in Missouri or any other U.S. state or territory unless the disciplinary action has no nexus to patient safety.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
• Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas.

General office and/or classroom conditions. Required stamina to teach class as required, ability to stand or sit for extended time periods, and regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
