RS&H is seeking a dynamic and experienced Transportation Engineer to join our Illinois Infrastructure Practice. This high-impact opportunity leads transportation projects across the state in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and shapes the future of mobility.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the design of complex roadway and multimodal transportation projects, including geometric design, drainage, traffic control, and construction staging.
- Serve as a technical liaison with IDOT, local agencies, stakeholders, and the public to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
- Oversee project delivery from concept through construction, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
- Mentor junior staff and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Support business development through proposal writing, client engagement, and strategic planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Active Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, with a strong portfolio of IDOT or Illinois Tollway projects.
- Proficiency in Bentley Open Roads Designer and other design software.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods such as CMGC, DB, and PDB.
- Familiarity with IDOT’s Bureau of Design and Environment (BDE) Manual and Phase I/II documentation.
- Previous involvement in stakeholder engagement or public meetings.
- Exceptional communication skills—able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Base salary range for this position in Illinois is $134,115 to $171,596. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
