The Toolmaker Technician will assemble, repair, adjust, groom, maintain, and retrofit custom plastic weld tooling. Installation & repairs will be done both in house and at the customers’ facilities. The individual will provide product and tool engineering documentation of repairs made to customer equipment in the form of service reports and make recommendations for design or manufacturing process changes when root cause of a tool failure appears attributable to Dukane’s design or manufacturing processes.
The role supports Corporate Quality Policy and uses TQM concepts, principles, and tools to make continuous improvements in work processes.
- Assemble vibration, hotplate, hot gas, and laser tooling per engineering print.
- Perform technical support, service, repair, maintenance, and retrofit of all Dukane vibration and custom welding products internally and externally at customer facilities, including overnight and international travel.
- Evaluate engineering’s tooling components for manufacturing feasibility prior to release.
- Maintain department order and cleanliness.
- Machine tooling segments to facilitate fitting, assembly, and repairs.
- Complete all paperwork and computer work associated with technical support, service, repair, maintenance, and services, including technical service reports, expense reports, marked‑up engineering drawings, etc.
- Provide input to the I.A.S. Division on product failures and suggest corrective action and product improvement.
- Continuously strive to improve customer satisfaction.
- Maintain flow of relevant information among customers, Large Tooling & Machine Build Manager, sales, engineering, and the I.A.S. Division to solve customer tooling and equipment problems.
- Load tooling in lab equipment, adjust tooling to align customer parts and perform tooling run‑offs with customers.
- Assist other departments when necessary.
Travel, driving on company business (occasionally), overnight travel on company business (occasionally). Qualifications- Minimum education:
Machining, blueprint reading, and trade school requirements. Alternatively, four years of related experience can substitute. - Must possess at least five years of toolmaking and machining experience with working knowledge of proper fixture build techniques.
- Capable of providing technical equipment service and support on systems that use PLC controls.
- Molding applications work is a plus.
- Solid verbal, written, and computer communication skills.
- Experience in a customer service environment preferred.
- Multi‑lingual, especially Spanish speaking, is a plus.
