Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience- Friendly and positive personality, productive, showing initiative.
- Effective written and oral communicator.
- Reliable and safety‑minded.
- Minimum high school diploma with a CDL Class B License and Passenger Endorsement.
- Minimum 21 years of age with at least 1 year of driving experience.
- Desire to transport preschool‑aged children through adults.
- Work record demonstrating reliability and positive attitude.
- Knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
- Knowledge of bus operations and maintenance.
- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommend improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
- Complete a vehicle inspection and vehicle maintenance check list before driving any Park District vehicle.
- Report any mechanical or maintenance malfunctions related to the vehicle.
- Work harmoniously with the general public, passengers, supervisor and fellow employees.
- Complete and pass the Park District’s Bus Driving program prior to driving any Park District vehicle.
- Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment.
- Follow all traffic direction and traffic rules.
- Transport or transfer participants to designated locations.
- Pick up and drop off the Park District bus at the Primrose Service Center.
- Follow directions and maps to designated locations.
- Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the St. Charles Park District’s safety program.
- Enforce safety rules with all participants on the bus.
- Turn in all necessary paperwork at the beginning and completion of each trip.
The position requires a range of physical activities including sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping/kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling/feeling, and standing. The role may involve frequent sitting, walking, and standing, with occasional climbing and balancing. Strength requirement: ability to handle 1‑30 lbs. Hearing and vision requirements are such that the employee can safely perform duties, with or without assistive devices or glasses.
