We are seeking a passionate Library Media Specialist to support student learning by managing library resources, promoting literacy, and integrating technology into instruction.
Job SummaryThe Library Media Specialist facilitates access to library and media resources to support curriculum goals and student learning. This role involves managing the school library, collaborating with educators to enhance instructional programs, and fostering a love for reading and digital literacy.
Key ResponsibilitiesResource Management
- Curate and maintain an organized and up-to-date collection of books, digital media, and instructional resources.
- Ensure accessibility of library resources for students and staff.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library and technology resources into classroom instruction.
- Provide direct instruction to students in research skills, digital literacy, and media ethics.
- Develop and implement reading programs and initiatives to foster a love for reading among students.
- Organize book fairs, author visits, and other literacy-related events.
- Support staff and students in the use of instructional technology and digital tools.
- Promote responsible digital citizenship and online research skills.
- Supervise students using the library and its resources.
- Train and oversee library aides, volunteers, and student workers.
- Maintain accurate records of library inventory, circulation, and budget expenditures.
- Report on library usage and instructional support efforts.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in a job-related area. - Experience:
Previous experience in a library or educational setting preferred. - Skills:
Strong organizational, research, and technology skills. - Knowledge:
Familiarity with library management systems, educational technology, and literacy development strategies. - Abilities:
Ability to collaborate with teachers, adapt to changing technology, and engage students in active learning.
