Orchard Farm School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our educational team as a Special Education Paraprofessional. This full‑time position involves supporting teachers and students in a classroom setting, providing assistance with instructional activities, and fostering a positive learning environment.
Position Term:
School Year (9 month)
Starting Rates: $16.50 - $19.70, depending on certification and experience
Work Week:
Monday - Friday
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- 36 credit hours from an accredited college/university or DESE approved 20‑hour substitute certification course, preferred
- Missouri Substitute Certificate, preferred, see how to obtain below
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting is highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student learning and development
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software
- Basic understanding of child development and educational practices
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Background check clearance as required by state regulations
- Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
- Assist students with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
- Assist in managing the behavior of students
- Provide one‑on‑one or small group support to students, reinforcing learning concepts and helping with assignments
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and resources
- Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law
- Support students with special needs by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) under the guidance of the teacher
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events when requested by administration
- Help supervise arrival and departure of students, and provide supervision and support in multiple settings throughout the school day
- Perform administrative tasks such as record‑keeping, data entry, and managing classroom supplies
- Follow instructions from teachers and administrators
