Job Overview
We’re looking for a General Superintendent – Mechanical to provide overall field leadership across all mechanical construction disciplines on our power generation and industrial projects. This multi‑discipline leadership role spans everything from anchor bolts up: structural steel erection, equipment setting and alignment, piping fabrication and installation, boilermaker work, and electrical systems—all the way through mechanical completion and handoff to precommissioning. You’ll report to the Director of Construction in a matrix organization, with dotted‑line coordination to onsite project leadership.
This structure ensures dedicated craft discipline support while staying fully integrated with the project team on sequencing, schedule, and execution priorities.
- Multi‑Discipline Field Leadership
- Overall field leadership and direction across all mechanical construction disciplines.
- Direct oversee and coordinate discipline‑specific superintendents on site.
- Own and drive the integrated mechanical construction schedule from anchor bolt installation through mechanical completion and turnover to precommissioning.
- Planning & Execution
- Develop and manage the integrated mechanical execution plan in coordination with project management and planning.
- Lead look‑ahead planning across all mechanical trades, resolving constraints and ensuring material and equipment readiness.
- Monitor overall mechanical manpower loading, productivity, and labor forecasts.
- Track progress across key metrics such as steel tonnage, equipment sets, pipe spool installation, weld completion, cable pulls, and system completion.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all mechanical work meets project specifications and applicable codes (ASME, AISC, AWS, NEC, NFPA).
- Oversee QC performance across disciplines: weld quality, bolt tensioning, alignment tolerances, NDE, and test pack readiness.
- Maintain compliance with safety policies, OSHA, and site‑specific rules.
- Drive a strong safety culture through daily engagement and accountability.
- Pre‑Commissioning Support
- Coordinate mechanical completion activities across all disciplines to support system turnover.
- Oversee punch list management, system walks, and closeout activities.
- Ensure readiness for tests such as hydrostatic, pneumatic, lube oil, seal oil, electrical testing, hi‑pot, and steam blow.
- Interface with commissioning and startup teams on turnover priorities, sequences, and system readiness.
- Coordination & Leadership
- Report to the Director of Construction on mechanical discipline performance and resource needs.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day execution with onsite project managers and directors within the matrix structure.
- Serve as primary contact between the mechanical construction team and project management, engineering, procurement, and commissioning.
- Lead coordination meetings with all mechanical discipline superintendents.
- Identify and resolve cross‑discipline field issues, constructability concerns, RFIs, and schedule conflicts.
- Coordinate with civil and site development teams on foundation readiness, access, and area turnover.
- 15–25 years of experience in heavy industrial or power generation construction, with progressive leadership across multiple mechanical disciplines.
- Proven experience as a General Superintendent, Mechanical Superintendent, or equivalent senior field leader on large‑scale projects.
- Direct experience on gas turbine simple‑cycle, combined‑cycle, or similar power generation facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple trades simultaneously: structural steel erection, millwright/asset setting, piping fabrication, boilermaker/HRSG erection, electrical installation, and crane/rigging operations.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, AISC, AWS, NEC, NFPA, OSHA).
- Track record of managing large craft work forces (500+ craft personnel).
- Ability to read and interpret multi‑discipline construction drawings, P&IDs, one‑lines, vendor manuals, and specifications.
- Understanding of sequencing from foundations through mechanical completion and precommissioning.
- Experience with matrix organizations and functional/project reporting lines.
- Excellent…
