What You Will Be Doing:You will be a key member of the central Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) robotics team, responsible for executing drone missions for inspections, storm damage assessments, and distribution site evaluations. You will operate small UAS drones independently after training, capture high-quality data, and ensure timely delivery of mission products. Your day-to-day activities will include preparing drones, flying missions, processing imagery and LIDAR data, and maintaining equipment.
This position involves fieldwork primarily Monday through Thursday, with opportunities for overtime and emergency work on Fridays if needed, with a typical training period of 2-3 months.
- Perform UAS flights to conduct inspections, assessments, and data collection for utility sites and infrastructure.
- Prepare and maintain drones and related equipment for daily missions.
- Collect, process, and analyze drone imagery, LIDAR, and infrared data according to organizational quality standards.
- Follow all federal, state, and local regulations governing drone operations, ensuring compliance with policies and safety protocols.
- Coordinate mission planning using mobile mapping applications such as ArcGIS Collector and Apple Maps.
- Maintain accurate records of flight activities, equipment maintenance, and data storage in accordance with security protocols.
- Support ongoing training and professional development to stay current with UAS technology and industry best practices.
- Assist with troubleshooting technical issues related to drone hardware and software components.
Skills & Experience:
- 1+ year of experience operating UAVs in utility, GIS, engineering, or related fields.
- Current Part 107 Certification.
- Bachelor's degree in UAS, GIS, Robotics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 55 pounds and operate outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Experience with drone data processing and imagery/LIDAR is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and technical drone components.
- Familiarity with infrared and ground-based inspection tools.
- Ability to interpret mapping and survey data.
- Prior utility or infrastructure inspection exposure.
Pay: $16.80 – $24.00 /hr
